Waterkant Futures Thinking Lab
Code of Conduct_

This Code of Conduct applies online, offline at all associated events and in personal conversations within the Waterkant Community.

Goal setting

The Waterkant Futures Thinking Lab, and all associated events, aims to include the widest possible range of contributors from the most diverse and varied backgrounds. We are committed to creating a friendly, safe and welcoming environment regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, background, religion (or lack thereof), social and economic status.

This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for all participants in our community, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior. We invite all participants in our events to help create safe and positive experiences for everyone.

Ecological footprint

The Waterkant Futures Thinking Lab, and all associated events, are committed to operating in an environmentally sustainable manner and minimizing the organization's impact on the environment in all areas through the Zero Waste approach. It also supports and promotes programs, organizations, companies and others that are committed to environmental sustainability and the goals of Zero Waste in their activities.

Open Source, Culture and Tech Citizenship

An additional goal of this Code of Conduct is to strengthen open source, culture and tech citizenship. In this respect, we encourage our participants to recognize and strengthen the relationships between actions and their impact on our community.

Communities reflect the societies in which they exist. Positive action is essential to counteract the many forms of injustice and abuse of power in society.

If you come across people who go out of their way to make our community welcoming and friendly and encourage all participants to get fully involved, we'd love to hear about it.

Expected behavior

  1. Participate authentically and actively. By doing so, you will contribute to the health and longevity of this community.

  2. Be considerate and respectful in word and deed.

  3. Make an effort to work together so that you can avoid conflicts from the outset.

  4. Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory or harassing language and behavior.

  5. Be aware of your surroundings and the other participants. Alert the organizers or others present if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress or violations of this code of conduct, even if they seem trivial at first.

Additional rules may apply to some event rooms, which will be made available to participants. Participants are responsible for knowing and complying with these rules.

Unacceptable behavior

Unacceptable behavior includes: Intimidation, harassment, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning language and behavior by any participants and contributors in our community. This applies online, at all associated events and in personal conversations within our community.

Harassment includes: Hurtful or derogatory verbal or written comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual imagery (including presentation slides); intentional intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or filming; constant interruption of lectures or other events; inappropriate physical contact and unwanted sexual attention.

Consequences of unacceptable behavior

Unacceptable behavior by any community member, including sponsors and decision-makers, will not be tolerated. If a request is made to refrain from unacceptable behavior, this must be complied with immediately.

If a community member behaves in an unacceptable manner, the organizers are entitled to take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including temporary or permanent exclusion from the community without warning (and in the case of a paid event, without refund of costs).

If you experience or observe unacceptable behavior

If you are affected by or observe unacceptable behavior or have other concerns, please report this to a person responsible for the event as soon as possible. Event organizers are always available to assist community members in contacting local law enforcement and otherwise restoring their sense of safety. In the context of events with personal physical presence, the event organizers will also provide escorts if requested by the person concerned.

Treatment of complaints

If you feel that you have been unjustly or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, please contact one of the organizers with a detailed description of your complaint. Your complaint will then be dealt with in accordance with our existing policies.

Scope of application

We expect all community participants (paid or unpaid contributors, sponsors and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct at all community venues - online and offline - and in all personal conversations within the community.
